Introduction
Welcome to the Mickey Mantle Wooden Bat Classic! Commerce High School in Commerce Oklahoma held a dedication ceremony in April 2001 naming its high school baseball field after its most celebrated graduate, Mickey Mantle Field. That day sparked an annual high school baseball tournament, the Mickey Mantle Classic. Since that time the Mickey Mantle Classic has never looked back. The Mickey Mantle Classic is now played with wooden bats only, just the way the Commerce Comet played the game.
The Mickey Mantle Classic, in its 7th year, has gained national attention. The Mickey Mantle Classic has seen its article’s in the archives of the Baseball Hall of Fame, guests such as former Yankee Greats Bobby Richardson, Don Larsen, Johnny Blanchard, Bob Turley, Tom Tresh, and Goose Gossage. Held a Mickey Mantle exhibit worth over $250,000, and has been featured on ESPN. Fans from Texas to Minnesota have enjoyed the atmosphere created by the Mickey Mantle Classic.
