Press Release
Pouring for the sidewalk to connect the Mickey
Mantle Statue to the parking lot at soon to be Mickey Mantle Monument
Park has been completed!
The
380
foot long meandering sidewalk features 7 curves, an information area
will be at each curve detailing different time lines in the Commerce
Comet’s life and career.
The concrete sidewalk will be lined
with bricks on both sides from start to finish, (over 2000 bricks.)
Fans will have the
opportunity to become a part of
Monument
Park in Mickey Mantle’s hometown by having their names, memories, or
messages engraved on a brick or tile.
Bricks previously sold will be
engraved and placed closest to the statue.
The brick
engraving process will begin at the statue area and work towards the
parking lot, although fans may request their engraved brick be placed
along any information area they may choose (as
area permits.) Information areas along
the sidewalk will be floored with 12 inch x 12 inch tiles that may also
be purchased for engraving messages and memories on.
Fans may
have their choice as to what information area they may want to have
their tiles located (as
area permits.)
Tiles and Yards previously sold will be put
in these areas as well.
Engraving
of the tiles will begin
after
the bricks are laid, sometime in mid-2012. Three commercial grade
flag poles have been purchased to sit directly behind the statue to
create a wonderful view of the Mickey Mantle statue from the highway and
Mickey Mantle Field.
One of the three flags will be a pin
striped flag with the number 7 on it.
The American flag will be 8 x 12 and
fly from a 40 ft pole while the others will be 6 x 10 flying from a 35
ft pole.
